I came across a debate as to whether life is the product of intelligent design or the spontaneous generation of life followed by the mutation of genetic code over time. As i read through the conversation, people offered arguments either for the existence of God or against it.
It seemed that the main argument of both sides was essentially the same; each side would state its thesis (whether God existed or not) with no evidence and dared the other opposition to come up with a counter-argument. Realizing the argument had come to a stalemate and neither party had any ready evidence for argument either proving or disproving the existence of God, I decided to come up with something.
I've had many conversations and even debates about religion since the time i began really believing what i now believe, but the ones that strike me most are the ones I have with my girlfriend. I remembered once that she showed me this video of a speech by a guy, can't quite remember his name, but it was about the immensity of space and the complexity of life. It really got you thinking about what the word "existence" really means. I've always been convinced that everything that exists was hand-crafted by something greater. I simply could not subscribe to the belief that this was all just a cosmic accident.
For those familiar with art, you may or may not have noticed that artists often work their signatures into the works themselves rather than just signing their names. By subtly working your name into the piece through symbolism, distinct imagery, or some other method, you claim the work without signing it. those who look for the signature of the artist and are somewhat knowledgable will find it, leaving little uncertainty as to whom the work belongs.
I say that to say this- Existence, accidental or intentional, is beautiful. its grandeur can't even be expressed by words of any language. the diversity of life, the complexity of what must already exist in order for life to even be possible, and the immensity of the universe are all broad topics that mankind can and probably will speculate on for eternity. But is it art?
If existence was the masterpiece of some master craftsman, the greatest of all artists, wouldn't there be some sort of insignia by the artist? We don't have a stamp,a sticker, or a barcode. There are no initials carved into the mountains, and, as far as we know, universe is not organised into a signature. But perhaps this "God" that some of us don't believe in worked his signature into his masterpiece another way.
In the video, the speaker mentions Laminin. It's the protein foundation that holds together every cell of every biological organism. It is almost literally the framework of every living thing.
It looks like this-
